Mary is a retired high school English teacher. During her 24 years of teaching, her focus was on the literary arts. After her teaching career, she was able to explore the visual arts. She selected both acrylic and watercolor as her favorite mediums, with a preference for watercolor. The ease of the process of using watercolor helped Mary enjoy the movement of the water and colors on paper. Early hobbies included drawing and painting horse pictures; crewel embroidery; jewelry making; sewing clothes; and small ceramic pieces.

About Mary...

I have enjoyed taking classes at the Spruill center, Campbell Folk School; and through art books. Now I love to paint cards, usually 5x7, for friends and relatives on birthdays, anniversaries and holidays. My subject matter varies but is often of realistic subjects.
I prefer smaller paintings that are easy to work with in a limited time and space. Being a
DFAA member gives me the chance to see the talents of our members and guest speakers. On behalf of DFAA, I enjoy working with the 100 students for Corner’s Outreach by bringing art into their lives. We do several projects for them each year. I know we all have creative talents within us, and I plan to keep my love of art evolving.
